Evaluation: Group Work

Our task was to recreate the first 30 seconds of an existing music video. In my group we chose the music video Ed Sheeran, 'A Team'. First we organised the roles in our group:

Ruby- Camera
Aimee- Producer/ Camera
Beth- Editor
Chloe- Editor
Jodie- Director
Abbie- Cast

We then watched the original video and decided on locations and actors for our reconstruction. We decided to start our video from 30 seconds in as the first 30 seconds did not have much variety in terms of editing. Although the video did not include any lip syncing we believed it included a lot of different camera angles we could practise and it was also interesting because it is in a high contrasted black and white.

Filming didn't take long as we had well organised where and how we would do it. We took some photographs to show our progress while filming and we used the video on Chloe's mobile to refer back to. This allowed us to correct our camera angles, positioning and timing for the shots. After filming, we uploaded the videos to a computer and used an editing programme to reproduce the music video.

We reffered back to the original video as much as possible to make sure our clips were edited in time. Downloaded the music and inserted it into the editor so this would make it easier for us to edit to. After editing the cuts, we learnt how to change the footage into black and white. However, we also needed to heighten the contrast for it to look like the real video. Lastly, the video was exported and we uploaded it onto our blogs next to the original.

Overall, I believe we worked really well together and we finished our work very quickly. If we did this project again I think we would choose a music video with a different style, shots and maybe singing so we could practise lip syncing.
